An
enthusiastic staff, superior facilities and a student body that is eager
to learn . . . All of these combine to make education in Polk County among
the finest in West Georgia!
The eleven schools in the Polk School District are evenly divided
between the eastern and western segments of the county. Within the system
are 1 pre-k thru kindergarten, 5
elementary schools, 2 middle
schools, 2 comprehensive high
schools and 1 alternative
school. The schools offer a full curriculum, including the Polk Enrichment
Program (PEP) for gifted students, the Chapter 1 Program for remedial and
disadvantaged students and special education classes for students with
other individual needs.
A very important aspect of the Polk School
District is vocational education. Approximately 95% of the students in the
Polk School District participate in vocational training aided by computer
labs at every level with exposure beginning in Kindergarten. College-bound
students enjoy the exceptional computer-data processing training offered
by the vocational department. Students planning to further their education
at fine institutions such as The Georgia Institute of Technology or
Southern Tech find excellent preparation in the superb drafting classes.
Industries find a well-trained work force in vocational students who have
been trained in electronics, metal fabrication, horticulture, auto
mechanics, construction, and health occupations.
Polk Adult Education Centers offer free
instruction in reading, language, and math as well as preparation for the
GED. All enrollees receive an educational evaluation and information on
how to achieve their personal learning goals. The Learning Center has the
latest materials and technologies to help students move as quickly as they
can into their future endeavors in technical education, job training,
college, or employment.
